Workshop "Modern Research In Agricultural Economics: From Research Idea to Publication"

A workshop entitled "Modern Research In Agricultural Economics: From Research Idea to Publication" will take place at Kyiv School of Economics (KSE) in Ukraine.

Background and Objectives

Internationalization of academic research is an important goal of modernization of agricultural economics in Ukraine. Notions of a research question, standards of the research design, format of the literature review, writing style, requirements to the data, depth of the data analysis and presentation of the research results differ quite substantially between academic traditions in Ukraine and in most countries in the West. The goal of the workshop is to help researchers from Ukraine understand these differences and better adjust to the standards of research and publication, which are widely accepted and followed in modern academic journals. Development of the necessary skills is a long-term process, hence this workshop will be an early milestone on the path to high quality publishable research in the field.

Topics to be discussed during the workshop include but are not limited to:

  • Land markets and land reform
  • Factor markets in agriculture
  • Agricultural policy
  • Agro and food trade
  • Sustainable agricultural growth
  • Effects of decentralization reform
  • Trade policies: barriers, non-tariff measures
  • Agricultural logistics
  • Performance of farms
  • Markets and regulations
  • Markets integration and internationalization

Target audience

Master and PhD students (aspirants), junior, senior and Post-Doc researchers

Workshop structure

We invite participants from Ukrainian universities and research institutions. During the workshop, participants will present their (semi-)complete studies to the rest of the audience. These presentations will be followed by general comments and remarks about ways to improve the papers and how to turn them into solid research aimed for academic conferences, such as the XVI Congress of the European Association of Agricultural Economists, EAAE, as well as reputable academic journals. Also, there will be a lecture on principles of academic research, peer review process, publishing pitfalls and writing advice to empower the participants in their research and publishing efforts.

Workshop language

The official language of the workshop is English. No interpretation will be provided.
