SEAVID19

The primary objective of the SEAVID19 project is to study how the Covid 19 pandemic affected the Norwegian seafood industry during the different stages of the pandemic, and to provide knowledge about how future crises should be handled. The research contributions look at how industry actors and regulators responded during the different phases of the pandemic and identfy key opportunities, challenges, transitions and innovations that can be beneficial for the future seafood industry. 

In addition, the project will explore the resilience of the logistics and transport network for Norwegian fishery products. Moreover, the transdisciplinary project, in which participants from industry and research work together to develop new knowledge, aims to contribute to a sustainable economic development of the Norwegian fishing industry.

In particular, IAMO will analyse the seafood trade developments between Norway, Russia and China. The researchers will focus on the impact of the COVID19 pandemic on exporter-importer trading relations persistency and pricing strategy as a result in changes in demand quantities for seafood products. To do so, trade duration and market power models are applied, incorporating firm-level trade transaction data.
