01.10.2012 - 30.09.2015
According to prospects of international organizations like OECD and FAO, Russia, Ukraine and Kazakhstan (RUK) will be among the major suppliers of grains on the world market in the coming decade. Thus, their agricultural production and exports are important elements in sustaining global food security. In this project we investigate political, technical and administrative barriers to grain trade, such export restrictions, certification requirements, state trading enterprises, etc. The effects of grain export restrictions on domestic markets are assessed. During the course of the project qualitative interviews with grain traders and expert interviews are conducted in each of the research countries.
The thesis is part of the research project GERUKA – Global Food Security and the Grain Markets in Russia, Ukraine and Kazakhstan.
