During a festive event, university rector Prof. Dr. Udo Sträter awarded the Luther Certificate to her for the outstanding research on the subject "Flexibility of Enterprises: A Theoretical and Empirical Analysis". In her dissertation the young researcher used newly-developed methods to investigate the magnitude and the determinantsof flexibility of Polish farms. Swetlana Renner pursues in her thesis the issue of how small-scale family farms were able to survive in the market during the transition period in Poland despite their relatively low productivity. The findings of her analysis suggest that such farms, in contract to large agri-businesses, have more flexible production systems and are better able to adjust to changes in market conditions.
