IAMO-led Doctoral Programme on Sustainable Agricultural Development in Central Asia strengthens ties with Tashkent Institute of Irrigation and Agricultural Mechanization Engineers

After its official inauguration by the Rector of the Tashkent Institute of Irrigation and Agricultural Mechanization Engineers (TIIAME), Prof. Dr. Uktam Umurzakov, and the Executive Director of the Regional Environmental Centre for Central Asia (CAREC), Dr. Iskandar Abdullaev, on 8 June 2018, IAMO researchers held the first research seminar to take place at a new Innovations and Research Cluster at TIIAME on 9 June 2018.

In their presentations, IAMO researchers Iroda Amirova, Nozilakhon Mukhamedova and Nodir Djanibekov emphasised how innovative quantitative and qualitative research methods could shed new light on pertinent issues of agricultural restructuring and water use in Central Asia. About 40 attendants of the seminar engaged in a lively discussion of recent water reforms and the innovation potential of the agricultural sector.

In the framework of ongoing academic reforms in Uzbekistan, TIIAME will act as the future main partner of a recently launched structured doctoral programme on Sustainable Agricultural Development in Central Asia (SUSADICA). After the seminar, Rector Umurzakov and SUSADICA coordinator, Martin Petrick (IAMO), signed an agreement that lays the ground for future cooperation between TIIAME and IAMO.

Prospective PhD students are welcome to apply to the programme until 31 July 2018.
