UaFoodTrade training seminar “Applied Econometrics for Economists with R”

IAMO, together with the Kyiv National Economic University named after Vadim Hetman (KNEU), Ukraine, organised a two-day training seminar entitled “Applied Econometrics for Economists with R” in Kiev, Ukraine, from 23 to 24 November 2019.

The seminar was a part of the “Pilot project for the sustainable internationalization of Ukrainian research structures in the context of the globalization of the Ukrainian food sector” (UaFoodTrade). Total of 21 postgraduate students, researchers and associate professors of the department of Economic and Mathematical Modelling at the KNEU, colleagues of other departments as well as representatives of higher educational institutions in Kiev attended the seminar.

The participants showed a keen interest in the popular and widespread language and environment for statistical computing R. IAMO researcher Oleksandr Perekhozhuk demonstrated theoretical knowledge and practical applications of the program including reading and processing of the data sets of different formats, formation and description of the statistical sampling variables. On the basis of the statistical samples, he presented and explained the possibilities for statistical and econometrical analysis, including linear regressions, statistical tests, time series analysis and interpretation of the results of econometric estimation for supply and production functions using different estimation methods.

Oleksandr Perekhozhuk shared his experience in practical application of the computer program language R for educational and research purposes. The seminar was held at a high professional and scientific level. The aim was the support of publishing scientific articles in professional journals on economics. At the end of the seminar, participants had the opportunity to exchange constructively experience and future ideas for joint research.
