GUCE-SAFE

German-Ukrainian Centre of Excellence for Smart Agriculture and Food Economics

Thematic complex:
Securing the world’s food supply and competitive supply chains
Project duration:
01.11.2021 - 30.04.2023
Investigated countries:
Ukraine, Germany

Ukraine has an enormous agricultural potential that has so far been poorly exploited. Innovative and thus internationally competitive food value chains as well as sustainable institutions can contribute substantially to the development of the Ukrainian economy. However, this requires a systemic approach or system innovation, which does not aim at individual technological innovations but at the creation of innovation-promoting framework conditions. The goal of the planned core of excellence (GUCE-SAFE) project is not only to establish high-performance innovation research in Ukraine in a core of excellence, but also to closely link top-level science in an “ideas factory” with the knowledge and experience of agro-business, politics and civil society in a transdisciplinary approach. With the Kyiv School of Economics (KSE) and seven other institutions from science and business, IAMO has excellent Ukrainian partners to develop the concept for a German-Ukrainian core of excellence in a first phase and to implement it in a second phase, involving other stakeholders from business, society, politics and research.
