Philipp Schwartz Fellowships supported by funds from the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation

Research domain:
Policies and institutions
Project duration:
since 01.07.2022

As part of the Philipp Schwartz Initiative, IAMO has been given the opportunity to award Philipp Schwartz Fellowships. The Philipp Schwartz Initiative was launched by the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation together with the German Federal Foreign Office. It enables IAMO to grant threatened researchers fellowships for research stays in Germany. The program allows Philipp Schwartz Fellows to continue their scientific work in Germany. Research stays of up to 24 months, with the option to extend for another 12 months, are possible.

IAMO is open in particular for hosting researchers in agricultural economics and neighboring disciplines who have come under pressure since the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Applications for an IAMO Philipp Schwartz Fellowship are possible twice per year.

Interested parties can find out about deadlines and requirements via the website of the Philipp Schwartz Initiative. Only scientific institutions are eligible to apply; self-applications of candidates are not possible. Therefore, researchers interested in a fellowship at IAMO should contact the IAMO research coordinator Marianne Müller-Albinsky.

The first fellowship was awarded in May 2022. Since July 2022, a Philipp Schwartz fellow from Belarus has been working on a project entitled “What land tenure the Belarusian village can support: Implications of villagers’ viewpoints for sustainable reforms”. The fellow collaborates with Dr. Judith Möllers in this project.
