Research domain:

Project duration:
01.12.2017 - 30.11.2020
Investigated countries:
Germany

The junior research group has been established by the ScienceCampus Halle to develop a novel interdisciplinary research agenda on economic and institutional challenges of the plant-based bioeconomy. The research group seeks to illuminate some of the critical points in the transition towards more resource-efficient and sustainable economies by examining the role of innovation-driven advances and disruptions in this process. The work program includes conceptual and empirical analysis of current and emerging trends in production and management practices of plant-based industries.

Methodologically, it applies theoretical concepts and analysis tools from economics and sociology – such as comparative case studies, stakeholder interviews, scenario-based simulations of innovation adoption and others – to address possible disruptions in the established business models and societal norms and expectations. The overarching purpose of the project is to contribute to rebalancing the technocratic and sustainability-oriented visions of the plant-based bioeconomy.
