AGRICISTRADE

Exploring the potential for agricultural and biomass trade in the Commonwealth of Independent States

Startpage AGRICISTRADE

Research domain:
Securing the world’s food supply and competitive supply chains
Project duration:
01.01.2014 - 31.12.2016
Investigated countries:
Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Moldova, Russia, Ukraine, Belarus

As of 2014 the agricultural and food trade between the EU and the successor states of the former Soviet Union seems to be expanding rapidly. The ambition of this project is to accompany this development by analyzing the potential impact of recently concluded free trade agreements and by delivering insights on the potential developments of the food, feed and biomass sectors.

The project has four objectives: (1) to improve our understanding of agri-food sector performance, (2) to better understand the causes of untapped agricultural production potentials and suggest pathways for improvement, (3) to explore developments in agricultural supply chains, and (4) to enhance the analytical framework for future assessments of developments in agri-food potential and trade. The work is organized in eight work packages.

IAMO is particularly responsible for WP4, where the performance of selected supply chains (e.g. cereals and meat) will be evaluated and the main factors that constrain their economic performance will be identified. The project will incorporate developments since 2014 in its analyses.
