World food and agricultural production of the future on the Eurasian continent

Within the framework of the Global Forum for Food and Agriculture (GFFA), IAMO in cooperation with the German Agribusiness Alliance (GAA) organises a panel discussion entitled “Sovereign, resilient, sustainable. World food and agricultural production of the future on the Eurasian continent” on 19 January 2024.

Pandemic, climate crisis, port blockades: Predictability in agricultural production - and thus, food security worldwide - is of outmost importance against the backdrop of ongoing global crises. Countries with great agricultural potential are challenged to produce reliably in the future, to ensure the supply of their own population and, at the same time, to close international supply gaps with exports.

Solutions that support farmers in producing in an ecologically and economically sustainable manner, are becoming increasingly important. For example, modern agritechnologies can help to reduce impact on soil and carbon capture capacities and thus support sound strategic decisions for cultivation.

Against the backdrop of the changing and perpetuating crises, high-ranking representatives from business, politics and science will discuss central questions: How can national economies shape their agricultural economies so that they produce sustainably and as independently as possible from external factors? Which agricultural policy measures promise lasting success? Which concepts reduce susceptibility to crises, where does exchange make sense? And what form can international cooperation take that promotes sovereign agricultural production while ensuring that farmers benefit?

The panel discussion will take place on 19 January 2024 from 9:30 to 11:00 am (CET), CityCube Berlin (M-Level). Simultaneous interpretation in German and English language will be provided. The GFFA expert panel will take place in cooperation with the German Eastern Business Association.

Online registration will soon be possible on the following website: www.gffa-berlin.de/en.

About IAMO

The Leibniz Institute of Agricultural Development in Transition Economies (IAMO) analyses economic, social and political processes of change in the agricultural and food sector, and in rural areas. The geographic focus covers the enlarging EU, transition regions of Central, Eastern and South Eastern Europe, as well as Central and Eastern Asia. IAMO works to enhance the understanding of institutional, structural and technological changes. Moreover, IAMO studies the resulting impacts on the agricultural and food sector as well as the living conditions of rural populations. The outcomes of our work are used to derive and analyse strategies and options for enterprises, agricultural markets and politics. Since its founding in 1994, IAMO has been part of the Leibniz Association, a German community of independent research institutes.
