Kick-off meeting of the TRUSTFARM project

As part of the project “Towards resilient and sustainable integrated agro-ecosystems through appropriate climate-smart farming practices” (TRUSTFARM), a kick-off meeting was held on 1 July 2021.

A total of 18 experts participated in the online meeting to define the objectives and structure of the TRUSTFARM project. The main aim is to design integrated agro-ecosystems. Livestock production is incorporated into cropping systems for enhancing ecosystem services in smallholder. Natural resources and the circular economy will be used in order to make production systems more resilient to climate change.

At the Meeting, IAMO researchers Osama Ahmed, Marianne Mueller-Albinsky and Linde Götz presented the project management, communication strategy, internal and external communication and supply chain analysis. Collogues from partner universities and research centrums discussed the following topics:

  • Current context and core challenges of TRUSTFARM. Production, consumption and trade of major commodities in South EU, North Africa and Sub-Saharan Africa. Agricultural water scarcity and solutions.
  • Climate variability global impact. Exposure to uncertainty and production risks. Improving the productivity of the agricultural system. Need of a participatory approach.
  • Toolbox of innovative pathways for sustainable agriculture based on climate-smart practices and promote crop-livestock integration system. Discussions and examples from other countries.
  • Design integrated agro-ecosystem for conservation with on-farm trials. Building on the selected innovations from WP3. Tested in real life from WP2. TRUSTFARM will design agro-ecosystem based on climate-smart farm practices using learning and experimentation strategy.
  • Assessment of risks, socio-economic and environmental footprint impacts.
  • Agribusiness models that improves farmer’s income. Business Plan Case Study “Etude du poject avant financement BOUMIA”.
  • Dissemination and outreach to society.
  • Case studies from 5 countries: Italy, France, Senegal, Morocco, Egypt.
