IAMO summer school in Kazakhstan educates and links young scientists from Central Asia

Within the research project „Agricultural Restructuring, Water Scarcity and the Adaptation to Climate Change in Central Asia (AGRIWANET)“ supported by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF), IAMO carried out a summer school for 25 young researchers at the Kazakh National Agrarian University (KazNAU) in Almaty, Kazakhstan, during September 14-18, 2015. The main focus was on theoretical and applied learning modules in development economics, water use in agriculture and price formation in agricultural markets as well as modules about writing and publishing scientific work and quantitative and qualitative research methods. A professional excursion to the Regional Environmental Centre for Central Asia and producing and processing agricultural enterprises rounded off the program. In parallel, IAMO researchers met partners from KazNAU and the Samarkand Agricultural Institute from Uzbekistan for a project workshop, also in Almaty. This event was supported by the Volkswagen Foundation under the project „Institutional Change in Land and Labour Relations of Central Asia’s Irrigated Agriculture (AGRICHANGE) “.
