The three articles published in the issue shed light on the recent developments in agriculture and agricultural trade by the three South Caucasian countries Armenia, Azerbaijan and Georgia. In the first article, researchers from the ISET Policy Institute overview major trends in agricultural trade of the South Caucasian countries and address their trade dependency on Russia. The second article, authored by researchers from Hochschule Geisenheim University, provides an overview of the wine industry in the South Caucasus, where wine has been cultivated for thousands of years. IAMO researchers Svanidze and Götz, the authors of the third article on grain market integration, point out that the countries of the South Caucasus are heavily dependent on wheat imports from Russia, most recently challenged by the restriction of wheat exports by the Russian governments during the COVID-19 pandemic.
