IAMO researcher Miranda Svanidze invited for Lindau Nobel Laureate Meeting

The Council for the Lindau Nobel Laureate Meetings has selected IAMO researcher Miranda Svanidze to participate in the 6th Lindau Meeting on Economic Sciences to be held from 22 - 26 August 2017 in Lindau, Germany.

Since 1951 the Lindau Nobel Laureate Meetings are held once a year in remembrance of Alfred Nobel in Lindau on Lake Constance. For the sixth time there is a special meeting for economists. So far 19 Nobel Laureates have confirmed their participation and will meet with 350 international young economists, among them next to Miranda Svanidze also IAMO researcher Arjola Arapi-Gjini. Previously, in 2014, Florian Schierhorn, now postdoctoral researcher at IAMO, had been invited to the 5th Lindau Meeting on Economic Sciences. The meetings offer a unique opportunity for cross-cultural and inter-generational exchange of knowledge and experiences.

Miranda Svanidze is a PhD student in the Department Agricultural Markets. Using the price transmission analysis her research addresses the question how well are grain markets functioning in the Black Sea region and what are its consequences for the global food security in the future. In her research she also considers how small and wheat import-dependent countries in Central Asia and the South Caucasus are affected by the integration with the world wheat markets in the Black Sea region. Miranda Svanidze is involved in the IAMO project "MATRACC: The Global Food Crisis – Impact on Wheat Markets and Trade in the Caucasus and Central Asia and the Role of Kazakhstan, Russia and Ukraine".
