IAMO and ICARE organized joint scientific sessions in Armenia

On 18 June, IAMO and the International Center for Agribusiness Research and Education (ICARE) jointly organized two sessions entitled “Agricultural Economics” in Yerevan, Armenia. The events were part of the Armenian Economic Association 2016 annual meetings from 17 to 19 June that was hosted by Yerevan State University (YSU), ICARE and the American University of Armenia (AUA).

IAMO scientists Ihtiyor Bobojonov, Giorgi Chezhia, Ivan Djuric, Oleksandr Perekhozhuk and Miranda Svanidze presented and discussed their research on the various aspects of wheat markets in South Caucasus and Central Asian region. Some studies analyzed structure and competitiveness of wheat supply chains in the region, while others investigated specifics of wheat trade relationships in the international and regional context.

At the last day of their visit, IAMO and ICARE scientists made a field trip to wheat producing region of Armenia where they have conducted interviews with wheat supply chain actors. Roundtable discussion with wheat producing farmers was conducted in order to discuss exiting challenges in boosting wheat productivity in Armenia and identify research priorities.
