The book takes stock of 25 years of post-independence economic reforms in Central Asia and argues that newly emerging transport corridors create future options for economic development in the region. For three years 2018-20 Richard Pomfret is holding an EU-funded Jean Monnet Chair on the Economics of European Integration. He also is a member of the reflection board of IAMO’s project “Institutional change in land and labour relations of Central Asia’s irrigated agriculture” (AGRICHANGE) funded by the Volkswagen Foundation. During his three-day stay at IAMO, he engaged with other members of the AGRICHANGE team on current research progress.

Professor Richard Pomfret, University of Adelaide, Australia, and The Johns Hopkins Bologna Center, Italy, gave a lecture at IAMO presenting his forthcoming monograph on “Central Asia in the Twenty-first Century” today.
