Coordinator of China International Research Group represents IAMO at BMBF delegation trip to Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan

Dr. Lena Kuhn, researcher at IAMO and coordinator of the institute’s China International Research Group, participated in a delegation trip to Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan organized by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) from 9 - 16 September 2017.

The delegation trip was initiated by the BMBF department "Cooperation with Eastern Partnership Countries, Russia, Central Asia". Next to Dr. Lena Kuhn, representatives from business and science for example from the Federal Institute for Geoscience and Natural Resources (BGR), the Leibniz University of Hanover, and the German Aerospace Center participated. In the Kazakh capital Astana, host of the world exposition Expo 2017, the 15-person delegation was welcomed, among others, by the Agricultural Ministry and the National Agency for Technological Development. The German guests visited the Institute for Cereal Research "Barayev" and met the president of the German-Kazakh University (DKU). In Bishkek, capital of Kyrgyzstan, the delegation spoke with the Vice Minister for Education and Research as well as with associates of the Ministry of Emergency Situations. Furthermore, they visited the Kyrgyz State Technological University, the University of Central Asia and the Aga Khan Foundation, a not-for-profit international development agency.

Strengthening the cooperation in science and business between Germany and both Central Asian countries was the main topic of the discussions. IAMO is already involved in a close collaboration with partners in both countries thanks to projects like "The Global Food Crisis – Impact on Wheat Markets and Trade in the Caucasus and Central Asia and the Role of Kazakhstan, Russia and Ukraine (MATRACC)" and "ANICANET – Revitalising animal husbandry in Central Asia: A five-country analysis (ANICANET)".
