Daniel W. Bromley, a professor of political economy at University of Wisconsin-Madison, will be honored with the Reimar Lüst Award 2011 for his exceptional merits in promoting international cultural and academic relations in a ceremony on 20 June 2012. The award is jointly granted by the Humboldt Foundation and the Fritz Thyssen Foundation and is valued at 50,000 EUR. Bromley’s work focuses on economic transition processes and the role of institutions in environmental and resource protection. He has maintained close contacts to IAMO researchers and is a regular visiting scholar to the institute. Bromley together with his wife, historian Joyce E. Bromley, has been engaged in the research project 'Looking East: Reclaiming Land and Legacy in the GDR’ since 2011. The project is supported by IAMO and analyses motives and experiences of agricultural re-establishers from former West Germany after the political changes in Germany in 1989/1990.
