Book a Scientist - Speed Dating with the Sciences

In the event “Book a Scientist” initiated by the Leibniz Association, Leibniz researchers discuss questions on topics that touch on everyday life. The individual talks will take place online on 10 November 2020.

From IAMO, researcher Lena Kuhn will talk on the topic “Climate risk in agriculture: Droughts, drones and digitalization”. Discuss how climate risks increasingly threaten agricultural production and income worldwide. The research examines ways of using satellite information and drone data to develop early warning systems for regional crop failure. These systems aim at enabling farmers and political decision-makers to take targeted and efficient countermeasures. Another potential use for satellite data are innovative agricultural insurance products that are being developed within the project. The investigations are based on satellite, drone and farm data from Germany and Central Asia.
