Special exhibition "Making Crises Visible" open to visitors until 2 June 2020

From 11 February to 2 June 2020, the Senckenberg Museum in Frankfurt am Main is presenting the interdisciplinary exhibition "Making Crises Visible", which brings together science, art and design. Students of the Offenbach Academy of Art and Design have developed creative visualizations of research results from the Leibniz Research Network Crises in a Globalized World. IAMO is also represented in the exhibition project with an exhibit. "Verdeckt gedeckt" is the title of the exhibition wall by the artist Sophia Metzler Phildius, which deals with a research work by IAMO scientists Osama Ahmed and Linde Götz on the topic of agriculture in North Africa after the Arab Spring. A kind of menu is presented, which instead of dishes shows the manifold challenges and problems of the North African food sector, for which the agricultural researchers are looking for solutions: Climate change and drought are hitting Northern Africa hard and soil quality is suffering from excessive irrigation and the use of chemical pesticides. Economic growth collapsed as a result of the protests of the Arab Spring and led to a dramatic devaluation of the currency. Due to high costs, many farmers produced less wheat. But the import of expensive wheat also caused an increase in flour and bread prices. Metzler Phildius herself says about the work: "Consciously, no solutions are shown here, as the viewer is encouraged to reflect on his position and influence and to recognize his own ability to act".

The special exhibition "Making Crises Visible" in the Senckenberg Museum can be visited daily from 10 am to 5 pm and on weekends until 6 pm. Further information
