The discussion during the event focused on climate change adaptation and mitigation, land management, and agricultural cooperation between China and Germany, including two events “Sino-German Workshop on Climate Change and Agriculture” and “Sino-German Workshop on Rural Land System Reform”. Additionally, the week featured an “Open Day” of the Sino-German Agricultural Cooperation, two excursions to Beijing Dairy Cattle Centre in Yanqing and to Beijing International Agricultural Science and Technology Park, and Sino-German Livestock Project Symposium. Approximately 160 participants from China and Germany, representing the governments, agribusiness enterprises and associations as well as researchers and experts from both sides, attended the events.
An IAMO delegation led by director Thomas Glauben participated the event. Thomas Glauben moderated the panel discussion on the challenges and opportunities in agricultural cooperation between China and Germany. In the session, all panellists deepened their discussion in digitalization and revitalization, and provided some suggestions on successful cooperation between two countries, such as in the field of agricultural mechanization. IAMO researcher Daniel Müller presented his recent research entitle “Greenhouse gas emissions in pork production: Comparative study China – Europe”. Yanjun Ren, as a researcher in China International Research Group at IAMO, also exchanged his research view with other participants and organizations. Following the event, the IAMO delegation visited multiple cooperation partners like the Chinese Academy of Social Science (CASS), Chinese Academy of Agricultural Science (CAAS), China Agricultural University (CAU), and China Centre for Agricultural Policy (CCAP) at Peking University to exchange about future research.
5th Sino-German Agricultural Week in Beijing
The 5th Sino-German Agricultural Week (DCAW) was held in Beijing, China, from 18 to 22 November 2019. The event was organized by the German-Sino Agricultural Center (DCZ), which is coordinated by IAMO and IAK Agrar Consulting, and sponsored by the Chinese Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs (MARA) and the German Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture (BMEL).
