From 18 to 20 March 2024, the annual conference of Agricultural Economics Society (AES) at the University of Edinburgh, Scotland, brought together a large number of experts on the agricultural sector. From the 34 posters having been presented at the conference, IAMO visiting researcher Bahareh Mosadegh Sedghy’s poster co-authored by Oleksandr Perekhozhuk and Tinoush Jamali Jaghdani has been selected as the best. The poster is based on research Mosadegh Sedghy has done since June 2023 at IAMO and presents the impact of export price volatility on the market behaviour of Canadian and German pork exporters to China. Canada and Germany are two major pork exporters to China. Although price volatility has been perceived as a source of risk for exporters, Mosadegh Sedghy’s research has shown that there is evidence that some periods of high price volatility have benefited major exporters.
Bahareh Mosadegh Sedghy serves as a tenured Assistant Professor at the University of Lethbridge, Canada. Since June 2023 she has been working at IAMO’s Agricultural Markets department, engaging in collaborative efforts on projects such as the NFRF (New Frontiers in Research Fund) proposal and a study on the effects of price volatilities on market power. Her research interests primarily revolve around agricultural supply chains and markets, with a particular emphasis on sustainability and risk management.
