IAMO welcomes delegation from the Chinese Research Centre for Rural Economics

On 9 and 10 September 2024, a delegation from the Research Center for Rural Economics (RCRE) exchanged views with IAMO researchers on the challenges of rural development in Germany and China.

During the visit to IAMO, the RCRE delegation, led by agricultural historian Professor Ou Wang, consulted with IAMO director Thomas Glauben and IAMO researchers who conduct research in various research regions and fields. Topics for increased research cooperation were identified and the challenges of rural development in both countries were discussed. The meeting, organised by Lena Kuhn, coordinator of the IAMO China International Research Group, also included visits to various farms in the surrounding area of Halle (Saale), Germany. The guided tours of the farms provided an understanding of the challenges of sustainable agricultural development in particular. Following the fruitful exchange, the interest in intensified research cooperation between the two sides was expressed.

The Research Centre for Rural Economics (RCRE) is a research institution of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs (MARA) of the People's Republic of China. The RCRE advises the Ministry of Agriculture on various agricultural policy issues and, in this capacity, exerts a significant influence on the country's agricultural policy.
