GFFA expert panel “Sovereign, resilient, sustainable. World food and agricultural production of the future on the Eurasian continent”

Within the framework of the Global Forum for Food and Agriculture (GFFA), IAMO in cooperation with the German Agribusiness Alliance (GAA) organises a panel discussion. This event will take place on 19 January 2024 from 9:30 to 11:00 am (CET), CityCube Berlin, Germany.

Pandemic, climate crisis, port blockades: Predictability in agricultural production - and thus, food security worldwide - is of outmost importance against the backdrop of ongoing global crises. Countries with great agricultural potential are challenged to produce reliably in the future, to ensure the supply of their own population and, at the same time, to close international supply gaps with exports.

Solutions that support farmers in producing in an ecologically and economically sustainable manner, are becoming increasingly important. For example, modern agritechnologies can help to reduce impact on soil and carbon capture capacities and thus support sound strategic decisions for cultivation.

Against the backdrop of the changing and perpetuating crises, central questions are pressing:

  • How can national economies shape their agricultural economies so that they produce sustainably and as independently as possible from external factors?
  • Which agricultural policy measures promise lasting success?
  • Which concepts reduce susceptibility to crises, where does exchange make sense?
  • And what form can international cooperation take that promotes sovereign agricultural production while ensuring that farmers benefit?

We will discuss these questions in a panel discussion on the example of the Eastern European/Central Asian region.
