Alexander Mkrtchian joined IAMO in July 2022 as a researcher in the Department Structural Change. He studied geography at the Lviv National Ivan Franko university, Ukraine. He wrote his PhD thesis on the landscape-ecological foundations of data integration in land information systems (supervisor Prof. Dr. Ivan Kruhlov). From 2003 to 2022 he was employed as an associate professor in Lviv National university, Faculty of geography. He authored papers and conference presentations on topics ranging from climate data interpolation to land cover changes, ecosystem responses to climate change, relationships between terrain morphology and ecosystem properties, soil sheet erosion, species distribution modeling.
