14 March 2014 - Eastern Europe as key region to contribute to global food security
A panel discussion titled ‘Eastern Europe as key region to contribute to global food security’ was hosted by IAMO in cooperation with the Committee on Eastern European Economic Relations at the Global Forum for Food and Agriculture (GFFA) in Berlin on 17 January 2014. The opening addresses to about 300 participants by Dr. Eckhard Cordes, Chairman of the Committee on Eastern European Economic Relations, and Dr. Dietrich Guth, Head of Department, Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture, was followed by explanations regarding the strategies and provisions of agricultural politics by Aleksandr Petrikov, Deputy Minister for Agriculture of the Russian Federation, and Oleksandr Sen, Deputy Minister for Agricultural Policy of the Ukraine. The Deputy Ministers discussed together with the representatives from business Dr. Alex Lissitsa of the Industrial Milk Company, Kiev (Ukraine), Stefan Dürr of the EkoNiva group of companies, Moscow (Russia), and Dr. Reiner Best, Evonik Industries AG, Essen (Germany) as well as researcher and IAMO Director Professor Alfons Balmann about development opportunities and risks in agricultural production in Eastern Europe.
