My research interests lay in the field of understanding of human dimension of land-use land cover change (LULCC), integration of remote sensing observations of LULCC, socio-economic and biophysical data. I am primarily focusing on the understanding of the effects of institutional changes, policies and individual decision making on land-use and land-cover. One of my primary geographic areas of the research is Northern Eurasia, particularly post-soviet bloc countries in Eastern Europe and in Asia. My research interests include monitoring LULCC and identifying the drivers of agricultural and forest LULCC, analysis of the agricultural yield gaps, historical LULCC, landscape ecological changes, interactions between human, land cover and biodiversity, development of the scenarios for agricultural development and the alternative land use with minimizing effects on the environment (e.g., production of biofuels). My work is highly international and interdisciplinary and I am happy to collaborate with many international researchers.
