IAMO Research Fellowships

IAMO aims at strengthening its scientific portfolio through awarding two-year research fellowships to excellent scientists. Candidates are expected to develop innovative new research ideas, advance existing research or work on a specific issue of high societal relevance in collaboration with IAMO scientists. Research topics should broadly fit within IAMO’s mission and complement existing researche.
IAMO research fellowships are aimed at postdoctoral and senior researchers who are able to demonstrate outstanding academic performance through a strong publication record and an innovative research proposal that clearly outlines the contributions to advancing the state of the art. Candidates from all disciplines may apply as long as they complement IAMO’s existing research activities.
Candidates are invited to submit a research proposal of no more than 3,000 words. The proposal should set out a clear description of the proposed research, including the intended collaboration with IAMO staff, the publication strategy and a time schedule to achieve the research goals. The key selection criteria are the applicant’s academic record as well as originality and significance of the proposed research.
Application deadline is on July 1st, 2013 or until filled. Applicants will be notified within two months after the submission deadline and must commence their fellowship within six months after selection.
What we offer
IAMO offers 6 fellowships per year. The fellowships cover accommodation in IAMO’s guest facilities and expenses for return travel. In addition, IAMO grants a two-year institutional affiliation to selected fellows that allows to continue the cooperation in projects, teaching and outreach.

Senior Researcher or Post-Doc
The Entrepreneurial Strategies and Organization group analyses the strategic adaption of actors in the agri-food sector in changing framework conditions that are induced by global driving forces, as well as transition-specific characteristics. Currently, the group focuses on analysing managerial strategies and farm performance, vertical coordination and farm cooperation, strategic decisions on input and output markets, investment, large farm management and agroholdings. Methodological approaches include computational economics (agent-based models; genetic algorithms; stochastic simulations), experimental economics, econometrics, as well as efficiency and productivity analysis. Results are expected to be published in high-quality international journals as well as disseminated to decision-makers in the business and policy spheres.
The position provides outstanding opportunities to pursue one’s own research, so priority will be given to candidates whose interests complement one or more areas of the working group. The ideal candidate will fulfil the following requirements:
- Exceptional doctoral degree in agricultural economics, economics, or a related discipline.
- Strong analytical skills, if possible including computational economics, experimental, econometric and statistical methods.
- Ability to steer and facilitate the strategic development of the working group.
- Project management and leadership skills and high ability to work in a team environment.
- Demonstrated expertise, with a strong publication record in relevant research areas.
- Proficiency in oral and written English.
The contract is initially limited to 2 years, but may be renewed. Based on the candidate’s experience and qualifications, the salary is determined by the E14 / E13 levels of the German TV-L pay scale.
