IAMO welcomes delegation from Belarus

On 28 September 2017, three representatives of the Belarusian State University, Department of Geography, and the Belarussian Geographic Society, both based in Minsk, visited IAMO.

The visit took place in the context of an ongoing project of the 8th phase of the "Belarus Support Program", which is being carried out by the association "Verein Einstieg" and the Belarussian Geographical Society in Belarus in 2017 and 2018. The stay in Germany is supported by the international program "Management of Social Transformations" (MOST). The theme of the bilateral project is "Peripheralization of rural areas as a challenge". Against this background, the guests from Minsk and IAMO researchers PD Dr. Daniel Müller, Dr. Florian Schierhorn, Prof. Dr. Vladislav Valentinov and Dr. Axel Wolz exchanged ideas on the creative handling of the effects of peripheralization. A transfer of German experiences and knowledge to Belarus is targeted. Among other things they discussed how agricultural cooperatives can act as a driver of economic development in rural areas, how sustainable farming can be achieved, and which results from transformation research of agriculture in Eastern Europe could also be of concern to Belarus.

The "Verein Einstieg" organized the visit program and accompanied the guests from Belarusian.
