New EU-funded Project on Agripolicy Analysis Started

At 1 June 2008 the multilateral project "Enlargement Network for Agripolicy Analysis" has become operational. It is one of the first projects approved under the EU 7th Framework Contract. This project will run for two years.

The lead agency is the French company Euroquality. Besides IAMO there are two research institutes from Western Europe as well as institutes or individual experts representing the twelve new member states and eight candidate and pre-candidates countries participating in this project.

The strategic objectives of the project are (1) to stimulate the networking between organisations involved in agro-economic analysis, (2) to provide scientific reports for policy making, (3) to prepare future analysis by collecting quantitative and qualitative information, and (4) to strengthen the analytical capacities of the research organisations involved in the project. Overall, Agripolicy aims at strengthening the European Research Area which has been identified as one of the most important objectives of the European Commission concerning research policy.

IAMO represented by Axel Wolz and Prof. Gertrud Buchenrieder will be mainly responsible for coordinating the scientific report on "Rural Development" and in organising three expert workshops spread over the lifetime of the project. For further information, please look at www.AgriPolicy.net
